Project Viking, Skellerup's new Dairy Rubberware Development and Manufacturing facility, was designed to optimise the company's production needs and integrate their design and product development functions. An incredible 182,000+ man-hours went into this five-stage project and the massive 18,900m2 building is functional, practical and sustainable, providing room for growth into the future.

The February 2011 Christchurch earthquake gave Skellerup the opportunity to establish a new greenfield facility, combining 20 separate locations. The project team worked to a 12 week design phase, but realised early on that this was not just a normal design and build project – due to the complex specialised plant placement within the buildings. This resulted in the building being effectively designed from the inside-out. The project encountered a number of unforeseen challenges, such as needing to manage boundary noise, ventilation, dust extraction, and sprinkler water storage. The Judges were impressed with the approach taken by the project team to overcome the often unknown design and installation challenges. This resulted in the project timeframe being extended by 6 months, but completed to a very high, and well co-ordinated standard. This project is recognised as a world leading international manufacturing complex.

Waipapa Farm Dairy is a design and build project for a farming business whose specific request was to create their “dream” milking facility. It needed to fit in with the property’s layout, the wider dairy conversion project and the newly imposed environmental regulations. The team worked collaboratively to complete the client’s vision, ensuring an aesthetically pleasing building that showed flair in its design while also maintaining the utmost practicality for a working farm.
