Judges’ comments

The Clyde Quay Wharf Building is an elegantly integrated, single finger wharf Apartment building. 

The structure has been developed into three distinct designs, each with a subtly different and unique character. From the direct links to the city, the waterfront promenade and Clyde Quay Boat Harbour at the city end of the wharf, to the engagement with Chaffers Marina and Oriental Bay in the central section, out to the spectacular unparalleled open harbour address at the north end of the wharf.

With the site involving the refurbishing of an existing 100 year old wharf over water, a number of challenges where presented including restricted access, adjacent operational buildings and marinas and tidal conditions.

Exceptional collaboration within the overall team and good working relationships with the local authorities has delivered what will become an iconic Wellington landmark.
