Māori Television's new location in East Tamaki presented a design challenge to the project team. The team had to create a new office space and studio that celebrates Te Reo Māori and embodies the DNA of Māori Television. The result is that the company’s DNA and mauri is now weaved into the building through Te aho tapu – the sacred thread - which translates to the first thread and the backbone of the design.

The Dunedin franchise of Cobb & Co., known for its pioneering heritage, selected to home its new restaurant and saloon in Dunedin’s Historic Railway Station. Constructed in 1872, the Heritage New Zealand listed property commenced a commercial fit out under intense public scrutiny. The project team delivered a new 750sqm, 220 seat, facility which is sympathetic to the railways history, while maintaining the quintessential elements of Cobb & Co’s brand identity.
Judges Comments
Passionate clients took on the brave task of fitting out one of New Zealand’s most recognisable historic buildings, the Dunedin Railway Station, as a Cobb and Co family restaurant. The contractor completed the project on time and on budget, with the City Council as landlord and Historic Places constantly looking over their shoulder. Although based in Hamilton, the contractors hired virtually all labour and subtrades locally, at the client’s instance. They showed outstanding management skills in bringing the trades together to complete this unique project.

EY are back in Christchurch's CBD after their previous office was damaged by the 2011 earthquakes. The EY Christchurch team service a variety of clients, and are very dedicated to the local Canterbury area, thus sparking the concept of "strengthen global, empower local." As a result, there has been the use of many locally sourced products in the building, such as Timaru bluestone and natural timbers.

This 900m2 building can be seen as you enter Hamilton and connects seamlessly with the street view. The difference of heights provides interest from both the street, and inside out. The building has a warmth and welcoming nature. The contractors involved were all aware and cognizant of the end users requirements and scope.

Located in the heart of Wellington, Xero Two stands tall as a contemporary, heritage landmark building. Built in the 1880s, the original two-floor, brick masonry building has been completely transformed into a five-storey, seismically-strengthened corporate headquarters for Xero. Xero Two is not only exemplary in terms of its design and fit-out, but also in it construction, which involved processes never before used in Wellington, such as Jet piles.

HUAMI is the newest addition to SKYCITY’s Federal Street dining hub. It is located, in what is possibly the busiest little street, in the city. The project included an integrated fitout incorporating new complex services to the kitchen, restaurant and toilets. There was a high level of coordination required of all the services with the back of house and show kitchens, while the large joinery package and high-end finishes resulted in a stunning completed product.

95 Union Street is a new development nestled in the corner of the historic Victoria Park Markets in Auckland. While the stark new exterior sits seamlessly alongside the old red brick walls, the inside was a stark contrast of all new basic commercial construction. The efforts of the fit out all came from tieing the new building back into its environment. This building now flows effortlessly to supply all the amenities required.
