Manaaki by Mercy is a two-theatre day-stay surgical facility and chemotherapy unit. It is purpose built for efficient, patient-centred service delivery. The total floor area of 746m2 is split over two levels on a sloping section including a protected tree. This is a domestic scale building that aesthetically fits the streetscape and provides a welcoming, up-market feel for patients. Complex services allow the use of modern medical technology.

The Hill Laboratory project was extensive, a conversion of a 7000m2 existing building. The result is a multi-purpose laboratory, which is the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere. The building had previously been used as a New Zealand Post mail centre. Hill Laboratory merged all their business units from four different Hamilton locations to one purpose-made facility which accommodates over 300 staff.

This GCH Aviation Centre development consisted of the construction of hangars to accommodate helicopters, private jets and the flying doctors. It included all associated offices, lounges and international biosecurity and customs screening facilities. The facility was integrated with the existing airport infrastructure, including adjustments to security fencing and new aprons. The team had to be mindful of the fact that they were operating in the airport zone and all its inherent hazards.

The Aorangi Specialist Centre fulfils the clients brief “To create a landmark building for Palmerston North”. Inspiration for this design comes from a simple leaf. From there, the seed was planted and the project grew organically. With meticulous planning and careful consideration given to all users including staff, patients and the wider community, whilst also considering energy efficiency practices, has resulted in an iconic building.
