The New Plymouth District Council Civic Centre project involved the structural strengthening of three levels of their new offices, and a complete refurbishment of the first floor over three buildings.
This was a hugely ambitious renovation project, involving major structural work and extensive upgrades to electrical, AV, security, and data systems. The building also underwent strengthening work to bring it up to a seismic rating of 80%.
The project was completed in sections, and in just eight months, ICL Construction delivered the $3m Civic Centre.
Judges were impressed with the high degree of workmanship achieved across all trades, and the relationship ICL established with the Council and stakeholders. This relationship has continued beyond the project, with ICL being awarded a separate three-year maintenance contract by the Council.

The studio needed to reflect their new branding, make a bold statement and showcase their creativity. The office needed to be open-plan, fit all staff and allow for expansion. Tōtara forests formed the inspiration for the design, representing longevity and strength, and reflected the company celebrating its 20th Anniversary in 2017. Dalman Architects applied Green Star and sustainable design principles to ensure minimal new materials were utilised in the design.

The BNZ Partners Centre project came as a result of the 2016 Kaikoura earthquake severely damaging the 20,000sqm Wellington BNZ Headquarters. Unispace and the BNZ had to rehouse 1,500 displaced staff members. The solution involved the consolidation of the workforce into three sites, with this project being the first of these. The project consisted of refurbishing an office and amenity space across 10 floors, as well as transforming the bank’s 840sqm Partners Centre into a collaborative space. This project pushed the boundaries for the BNZ. They needed to ensure that they maintained their position as market leader, and showcase the resilience of the bank in the face of adversity.
