entX is New Zealand’s newest retail entertainment hub containing 19 eateries and a 7-screen cinema complex across 10,800m2. This build has delivered a world-class entertainment and dining experience in central Christchurch. The complex is organised around a ‘pedestrian street’ shared indoor space and linked by a 20-metre high atrium to the two-story Hoyts cinema area. The project site is strategically located in the Christchurch CBD to support the ongoing recovery and revitalization after the Canterbury earthquakes. The finished product brings a level of pedestrian activity and leisure that has been truly missed since the tragic earthquakes. |
Project: Duncan and EbbettEntrantDowney Construction Ltd Project PartnersGray Consulting Engineers Ltd (Engineer), Noel Jessop Architecture (Architect/Designer) The Duncan and Ebbett project involved the creation of two new standalone buildings on a site of over 12,000m2. The buildings had to house the vehicle brands of JaguarLandrover (JLR) and Volvo, Peugeot and Citroen (VPC). Strict global corporate identity guidelines needed to be followed for design approval of the new buildings. Due to the NZ building code, some of these guidelines were unable to be met and had to be modified accordingly. The VPC building consists of showroom and offices, and the JLR building consists of showroom, offices, and a world class workshop and service center. |

Press Hall is nestled between inner city Willis and Boulcott streets in Wellington. This $28m project involved significant demolition, extensive seismic strengthening and construction works that collectively repurposed the ground floor and created the now iconic Press Hall food court and created over 4,000m² of office space in the floors above. To unlock access to 80 Willis St, the team demolished a rundown property at 80A Willis St and created the Press Hall laneway as well as a hospitality complex, which includes three ground level food kiosks and an upstairs bar. This critical move opened-up the entire complex and provides pedestrian access to the recently completed Transpower NZ’s headquarters. |

The Archibald & Shorter project involved a very strict transformation of an existing building to accomodatea new corporate identity for European brands: Jaguar and Land Rover. The project encompassed the entire building over two levels, including basement workshops and first floor showrooms and offices. Works included high end finishes to bring the building in line with the new corporate image – both inside and out. Extensive client liaison was paramount to ensure the smooth completion as works were undertaken in a live working environment. |

The Queensgate Shop 505 project was for a very high-profile fashion retailer. The project was significant for the retailer, as it was the first store for them in the Wellington region, and only the 3rd store in NZ at the time of completion. The project was split across two levels of the existing mall and it involved converting existing car parking on the upper level into the 1500m2 shop. The most interesting part of the project was constructing a building within a building. The project involved installing a new lift and new escalator into the new store, including entirely new services as required. |

The project is special in many ways, particularly in design, quality of build, success of the partnership between all project stakeholders, and the beauty and style of the finished building. This is an iconic building which will serve the community and visitors for many generations. |

The ambitious PaknSave Clendon project needed to deliver a new PAK’nSAVE supermarket, while the adjacent New World supermarket it was replacing was still trading. The construction site was extremely constrained, and works had to be undertaken with minimal disruption to the existing store’s operations, neighbouring retailers and the public. The first stage was constructed immediately adjacent to the existing store and on completion was bannered and traded as a PAK’nSAVE. The New World was demolished and the remainder of the PAK’nSAVE was constructed to complete the project. Despite being built in two stages and being three-times the size of the 30-year-old original building, the new building is seamless, without structural or seismic joints between the two stages. |

Following the Christchurch earthquakes, the Rangiora RSA building required significant work to bring it up to 100% of the New Building Standard. The RSA Club decided to carry out an extensive upgrade of the building and facilities at the same time. This included adding a Sports area which incorporates a TAB, darts and pool area. A new outdoor courtyard has been created, which incorporates outdoor seating, extensive landscaping and a memorial fountain. The rest of the interior and exterior of the existing building has been extensively modernised to tie in with the new additions to the facility. This work was carried out over 18 months, in stages, to allow the Club to remain open to it’s members. |

Ambience and atmosphere are at the centre of the multi-million dollar facelift for one of New Zealand’s largest open-air shopping centres. The revitalisation and expansion of Ngāi Tahu Property’s Tower Junction in Addington was designed to make better use of an expansive parking lot and increase foot traffic to the area. The project aimed to increase the retail offering and provide a dedicated food and beverage area to the existing complex. A distinctive façade was designed that included timber and steel and ties the entire complex together. |

The St Pierres Sushi project included a complete fitout of an existing video shop. This meant completely gutting the existing building back to the shell. The project included installation and coordination of all services and contractors. As well as consideration of the neighbouring Burger King, canopy installation within public areas and full servicing of new equipment for 6 months. |

The Common Ground Eatery project involved implementing a modern design into an existing building. The exposed rafters, ceiling, rolling glass door all incorporate the earthy, calming feel with a modern industrial touch. The beautiful collection of dark timber throughout, with contrasting white walls, tiles and overhead lamps all tie in perfectly to it’s tone and is reflected throughout the entire space. Booth seating was also fitted to help customers easily interact with each other and further enhance their dining experience. |
