The Stuart McCutcheon House project, initiated to accommodate University of Auckland students, stands out for its focus on student-centric design, incorporating features like cinema rooms, gaming areas, communal kitchens, and study spaces. The building's acoustic design creates a serene environment for residents, while the inclusion of communal areas fosters a sense of community among students. The architectural approach and prefabrication techniques contributed to efficient construction and early project completion. Despite the logistical challenges posed by COVID-19, the project team's innovative solutions and strategic planning ensured its successful and timely completion. Offering 907 bedrooms, Stuart McCutcheon House represents a significant addition to student living in Auckland.

Judges comments

Stuart McCutcheon House, a purpose-built student accommodation facility near the Auckland University Campus, is home to over 900 students. The property is considered a long-term investment, with a shared vested interest in its high functionality and minimal maintenance. This mutual objective prompted the forward-thinking integration of BIM into the project. This project stands apart because of its application of BIM in ongoing facility management. Extending the use of BIM beyond the operational phase is an innovative technique to enhance building management and maintenance. The vast amount of information collated throughout the design and implementation stage has produced a long-term database that will significantly enhance the building's maintenance for many years.
